SHANGHIA NORMAL UNIVERSITY

Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) is a public university located in Shanghai, China. Founded in 1954 as Shanghai Teachers Training College, SHNU is a comprehensive university with particular strengths in teachers’ training and liberal arts.

The University currently has 82 undergraduate disciplines, covering the fields of philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture and management, 99 master’s degree programs and 24 doctoral degree programs. With a total enrollment of over 20,000 full-time undergraduates, 7,700 graduates, 2,700 international students and 12,000 night school students, SHNU is dedicated to enhancing teaching performance and cultivating talents.

The University’s two main campuses, Xuhui Campus and Fengxian Campus, cover a total area of 1.53 million square meters. The central libraries’ collections contain 3.05 million volumes of books, over 100 e-books databases and 8 self-built characterized databases. Owing to its large ancient text collection (180,000 volumes), it won the honor of a “National Key Protection Unit of Chinese Ancient Books” in 2009. The Ceramic Art Museum in SHNU is one of the top ten national culture museums among Shanghai’s academic institutions.

SHNU is committed to diversifying its learning environment and making it a truly international university. It has so far established cooperation and exchange relationships with nearly 400 institutions of higher education in over 40 countries across the globe. It holds joint academic programs with seven universities in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Russia, the UK and the USA. Furthermore, SHNU has built three Confucius Institutes in Fukuyama University in Japan, University of Botswana in Africa and University of Missouri in the USA. Having made great achievements and progress in recent years, SHNU is striving to become more dynamic, innovative and international.
