This course aims to introduce students to various genres of literature (short story, novels, poetry, drama, and white papers) as well as to help students develop abilities to interpret literature with analytical and critical thinking skills. Students will examine the terms and methods of formal study of literature: structure, character, style, etc.
We will start with the reading of the story of Beowulf and end with modern takes on the same story. Subsequently, we will move to novels. Students will discuss in class how styles and elements of literature can change over time and space. Hopefully, this course will enhance students’ appreciation and understanding of major types of literature and equip them with the ability to develop critical approaches to thinking, reading and writing about literary works.
