This course will study the painting, sculpture, and architecture of the Italian Renaissance from around 1300 (the end of Gothic era) to sixteenth-century Mannerism, interpreting the works within their historical and religious context. Artists such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Donatello, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo and Titian, etc. will be studied as significant contributors to the development of art during this period. Upon completion, students are expected to demonstrate the breadth of art and artistic development during the Renaissance period. This course is also intended to develop critical thinking and writing skills through discussion, presentation and paper writing assignments.
