Description

This course is a comprehensive introduction to the main religious traditions in China, including Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, and Chinese religious transformation. We will explore the formulations and subsequent transformations of major beliefs, doctrines, practices and institutions that characterized specific religious tradition. We will also discuss the diversity and unity of Chinese traditions, with focuses on aspects of the cultural background, art, literature, philosophy, and institutional development of each tradition.
